Block Party

You've seen the reality TV shows that work.

The group of adventurers on an island, who compete in crazy challenges until a winner gets a huge cash prize. Or the group of teams who travel the world and compete in exotic challenges until a winner gets a huge cash prize.

So when you hear CBS is creating a new reality show, the formula is predictable. Except this time, they wanna cast you and your neighbors in your own neighborhood.

With "Block Party," CBS is seeking Seattle-area communities for a show where neighbors compete in family-oriented challenges. Of course, the winning family gets a huge cash prize. "We want a variety of types of households in the mix. A diverse community is ideal and middle-of-road in terms of socioeconomics," says Jaclyn Lenz, Senior Casting Producer.

To apply, here's the drill: Find a total of eight families, who live within close proximity. (The ideal location is one where camera crews will have easy access to film.) Create a video of the look and feel of your 'hood, plus 30-second to one-minute intros of each family and how you fit in. (Biggest Husky fan? Hotspot for cookouts? Most kid-friendly backyard?) Finally, fill out an application. The deadline is January 5, 2009.

With plans to start filming by summer 2009, you might want to hold off on planning that July vacation. You, and your neighbors, just may be working.
